Abu Dujana Talisman
This artwork is part of an ongoing research project into ancient Arabic magical practices. It is inspired by the Ḥirz Abū Dujāna, a traditional talisman historically regarded as a source of protection and spiritual strength. Such talismans were believed to guard against evil, support clarity of thought, and preserve the soul.
The design is based on rhythmic repetitions of Arabic letters and Qur’anic verses, which in these traditions were thought to hold special psychic properties. These letters were associated not only with spiritual influence but also with natural elements such as plants and with celestial forces.
At the center of the composition are symbolic figures and circular motifs, surrounded by layers of inscribed text radiating outward. This arrangement mirrors both the mandala-like symmetry of sacred geometry and the concept of expanding protection, with the repetition of writing intended to amplify its perceived spiritual power.
